END OF SEASON

END OF SEASON

Well….that was an exciting end to the Premiership, despite the champions being decided a couple of weeks ago. It was strange this weekend as a Portsmouth fan. The last few months have been a horrible mixture of anticipation and fear before every game and for the first time since Christmas I wasn’t too worried. Staying up with a week to go was an amazing achievement by Pompey, requiring the third best performance in the Premiership for the last three months. Unbelievable spirit from the players and unending, loud support from fans home and away. Next season I hope to be much less exciting. Nice, safe, mid-table obscurity would be very welcome after the last few seasons of excitment, Russian investment, soap opera and suspense but since this is Portsmouth Football Club somehow I doubt that is what will happen.

One last thing about this season is that it might be the last we see Thierry Henry play in the Premiership. I really hope not. I love seeing his skill and flair every week on Match of the Day. I love the way he appears to really enjoy playing and making the amazing seem easy with a particularly French panache. He is one of the few players that fans of every club wish would stay at his club and that is about as big a compliment as you can get in football.
